I'm very excited about this! I actually got my start in fiction (but only published one trilogy). I LOVE world building and I can't wait to get a look at the worlds you've created in TCOTNK. It's gonna be great!
I just started TCOTNK at 1 and am IN LOVE. My only complaint (but it ok) is that the comments are turned off so I can’t shout excited expletives at you after reading!
Somehow I found it very difficult to respond to your praise…but I do want to express how deeply I cherish this….I can come across as stoic and arrogant but the opposite is true. Publishing in vulnerability is stressful, laying your soul on the public pavement is so scary….
I started writing my own memoir, ignited through your deeply moving example. You kicked my butt to become more personal and it is a heavy ride.
I did remove the paywall this week on the fiction and allowed comments on a few chapters for you and others to shout expletives (was a new word in my limited vocabulary, had to look it up). I hope the infatuation lasts, and if not, I sure would like to hear it too.
I'm delighted to hear that I somehow "kicked your butt" into joining me on the hard, pavement of vulnerable sharing. (We're in good company with earthworms—and though they get run over and thrown ruthlessly by school children, they continue to surface for the good promise of air.) Glad to hear you allowed for comments on a few of your chapters, and thank you for reminding me to sneak back into the Bertus corner, I can get distracted by so many wonderful things to read over here. Infatuation continues!

“Art gets us through the impossible.”
— I love it! Great piece.
P.S - I really like your substack bio the way. :)
Thank you so much! It’s been very true for me….
It has for me too, I think that’s why it resonated.
